The silk from the larvae of the silkworm moth, known as the celestial silkworm, was traditionally used as fishing line. In Japanese, it's written as "天蚕线" (celestial silkworm line). This suggests that the knot was once one of the most common knots. Its shape consists of two knots side-by-side, hence its other name, the "train knot." English names include "Fishman's Knot" and "Anglers Knot."

This knot is frequently used when tying knots with ropes of varying thicknesses. In fishing, the line is typically wrapped 4-5 times. It's also commonly used with slippery PE line, making it widely applicable. However, when using PE line, more than 7 wraps are generally recommended for a secure knot.

A knot with two wraps is called a "Double Fishman's Knot," while knots with more than two wraps are called a "Uni Knot." Its applications are extremely wide; in terms of fishing, it can be considered the most common knot.
