Stop Knot / Overhand Knot / Figure of Eight Knot / Titiwa

Both the "Stop Knot" and the "Figure-Eight Knot" are basic knots used to prevent the knot from coming undone. In fact, most knots used by anglers when making fishing rigs are variations of these two knots.

A quick look at the diagram is enough to understand that the "Stop Knot" (also known as the "Overhand Knot") is a commonly used knot in everyday life. Increasing the number of wraps to two creates a "Stop Knot"; threading a line through the loop creates a "Tram Knot"; further increasing the number of wraps and adding a hook creates an "Inner Hook Knot"; and using two lines together creates a "Surgeon's Knot".

The "Figure-Eight Knot" is an essential and familiar knot for making tiewa (a loop made with a Figure-Eight Knot). Increasing the number of wraps and adding a hook creates an "Outer Hook Knot". The "Hold Knot" used in swivel knots is also based on this knot; a simple diagram should make it clear.
