Cow Hitch / Ring Hitch

In Japan, this knot is typically used to attach bag handles or hooks. However, in Europe and America, it's a knot cowboys used to tether horses to trees, hence the name "Cow Hitch." Because of the numerous loops, it's also called a "Ring Hitch."

Despite its extremely simple construction, its applications are very wide. Because it's a knot that easily comes undone unless the rope is strained, in fishing, it's often used by first making a loop at the end of the fishing line before tying it. The well-known "Titiwa" knot is a common tool in fishing rigs.

It can also be used to connect the swivel joint and mainline of stream fishing rods, and is also used when connecting swivels. As for how to make this knot, "hooking" is a more accurate description than "tying." The method of making a loop, wrapping it around a piece of wood or similar object, and then passing it through the end of the rope twice is called a "Plush knot." This knot is very commonly used when tying something to a tree for natural descent, such as during camping trips.
